PERISCOPE (Participatory Engagement & Resilience Initiative against Strategic COmmunication and Propaganda in Europe)
is a cross-border initiative that supports democratic resilience by empowering citizens, educators, journalists and youth to counter disinformation, gendered hate speech, and foreign information manipulation (FIMI), using inclusive media literacy, civic engagement and responsible AI approaches.
Why PERISCOPE matters
Across Europe, digital media literacy gaps, pressure on press freedom, and reduced trust in institutions make societies more vulnerable to disinformation and manipulation. PERISCOPE addresses these challenges in line with EU priorities, including the European Democracy Action Plan, the ProtectEU Strategy, and the European Democracy Shield direction of travel.
What we do
PERISCOPE is implemented through 26 work packages, organised into four thematic clusters:
Capacity-building:
practical toolkits, youth and educator modules, and SLAPP-focused legal training.
Public awareness campaigns:
thematic campaigns addressing issues such as gender, minorities, and crisis narratives.
structured exchanges between civil society, media, public institutions and other stakeholders to translate evidence into recommendations.
Impact
Across the project duration, PERISCOPE aims to train at least 500 individuals, engage 50,000+ citizens through campaigns, and provide multilingual, open-access resources that can be reused across Europe.
To support long-term uptake, PERISCOPE will also develop a Civic Tech Marketplace and a Replication Roadmap to promote sustainability beyond the project’s 24-month timeline
